We made it home after a long relaxing beach day.

When the beach day had to come to an end as we are on an Island and do have to go over the river and through the woods to make our way back to our cushy home. We pack up stuff and walk back to return free beach gear and hunt down some bikes. Super excited to go on a bike ride. All bikes taken and/ or rental store closed. We choose to walk this Island, bear in mind I’m wearing flip flops today……can you tell we need foot massages?  Gotta get that added to the list, lol

We start our stroll towards Seaview, an absolutely breataking row/area of eclectic fancy huge homes with serious character, glam, and charm. Each house blows the next away they are each unique and many have names. We walk and walk, in awe- taking in this dreamy scenery. Danielle is snapping photos left and right. Kids are speeding by on bikes, other islanders are walking as no cars allowed here. The only way to get anywhere is on bike or foot, you may see an occasional golf cart but not many. We only saw one. After walking at least 1-2 miles we arrive at Schooners Bar/Restaurant. We get a perfect seat on there back patio in the sand. The view is of a pink sunset staring into the bay filled with boats. With a cocktail in hand we just sit and take it all in. I had the FI signature drink “Rocket Fuel”- creamy goodness. We face timed Danielle’s kids to show them our view, and the homes nearby in the distance. Crazy you can truly escape the City so easily to an Island like this one. We of course start talking to people, meet a great couple, families, etc. Danielle finds out what they love about living on the East Coast, where they are from etc. Funny everyone believes San Diego is an amazing place too. The only thing missing there is 4 seasons. People are sooooo friendly. We had met girls at lunch too who shared so much info too. Everyone definetly has different opinions of what to see/do when in NY.

We decide to walk all the way back to Ocean Beach area on the beach instead of the path. It’s like dusk out, not totally dark yet…Omg the houses we see are for the rich and famous and out of the movies. The architecture is incredible. My calf muscles are screaming at me while I type that not only are we walking miles and miles daily but now I have had a serious sand workout, ouchie!!

We find a quick dinner as it’s getting late, we have a long trek back and would like to catch the early ferry at 9:10 pm ha I have yet another slice of Pizza, this time meatball, Danielle had a Chicken Caesar wrap. Our cheapest dinner yet 🙂 We get on the longest Ferry line, are a bit nervous it could be full. We talk to others who all have hope we will make it. Board the top deck of the ferry for a beautiful windy ride across to Long Island. The moon is a bright yellow sliver in the sky. The organization of how perfectly timed all this transportation is run is perfection. We get on the van that will drive us to train station.

I start talking to my seat mate Irv, a white haired 74 year old Leo man from NYC. He is super friendly, a retired attorney, got married at 46 and has one son. He is a wealth of knowledge. His son lives in CA. This man bought a 6 room apartment on the Upper West Side 30 years ago for 44K and said it’s worth over 1.5 million today, but he’s never moving his son will just inherit it all. We follow him onto the train- we all sit together for the hour + journey and learn Irv’s life story. I truly believe Danielle’s next career should be a journalist investigative reporter. She made this guys night, and I was really a jr reporter too, he loved every minute of it as we found our golden goose. The questioning he received from us could have been a movie scene for sure. He has added so much to our ever growing list of must sees. Omg- for those who really know me….we had a delerious moment in the middle of our conversing with Irv. I have not laughed this hard in years. Danielle was hysterical too. I think this man thought we were cookoo for a moment. Danielle started the hysterical fit and I could not stop. We seriously have 1000 things left to do on this list, that by the way I carry around stapled together in my backpack. The big laugh was the fact that we thought it was a possibility to leave the city for a day trip up north or to NJ and OMG Irv says we need 3 years here at least to truly experience the City. We talked about plays, history, he is not a Trump fan, he greets tourist in Central Pk, his pro bono legal firm, his wife whom he dated off/on 10 years before settling down together, his parents, being born in Brooklyn, his kosher childhood home, his mom putting everything in the freezer that he appreciates good food- the list is endless of what we learned from Irving. We really enjoyed him and he loved us. We all walk out of Penn Station together at midnight, he loves the Empire State Building and wants us to see his favorite view from 34 th st. He takes our photo for us and we say our good byes when he gets on his subway.

We made our way to the Q train and waited so long in that hot underground subway, part of the experience for which we both love. Finally opened the door to our awaiting home at 1 am, so beat but relaxed from this dreamy magical beach day.

I am just waking up…….we are Brooklyn Bound today.

Until the next reports 🙂

love laurie sue xo

Oh how I loooved the sound of your hysterical fits of laughter with Danielle with talking with Irving, who sounded truly lovely! Can’t wait to see all your photos you’ve both taken. FI sounds quite special. My aunt & uncle had a house there in the late 60s & have only heard about it. Imagine it’s pretty swanky now. You go, Girls!!!!

It reminds me of a place out of the 60’s still, with no cars and where kids wander freely. You would absolutely LOVE it!!! I want to return again and again!!! It’s like a dreamland!
