After the longest day of travel we made it over the pond to Prague. To recap through the trials and tribulations of getting here I will try not to bore you but add some color to your day.
I live in a dream world and wish my life was like a movie which I feel like it comes pretty close when I am blessed to travel. I started with watching “ Sleepless in Seattle”, on the plane- love a hopeless romantic movie any day. Then down the hatch with an Ambien and woke up in Dublin. 🙂
Landing in Dublin, flooded my brain with memories of that week long adventure with Stephanie. Such good times! The entire airport was filled with travelers drinking that dark black Guinness, yucky to me but you know your in Ireland when it is overflowing, especially at the crack of dawn. Our flight was delayed and instead of 2.5 hours here we had 3.5 hours to kill. We found a bar at 8 am to eat breakfast, I thought I was hungry. My moms clock is way off. I guess the younger you are the faster you adjust. Food was just ok in airport so didn’t eat too much. No worries, I doubt we will starve on a European vacation. The music that was playing in this pub and the people wandering around with the black drink, I felt like I was living in a scene out of the movie, Train-spotting. We were tired and wanted to lay down. These European airports have leather couches. We both laid down, I have a great photo of her, not one to be shared 🙂
Finally boarded last leg to Prague, so many young student aged people headed to Prague for vacations, internships, study abroad etc. It felt like a college aged filled flight. My seat mates were from Boston. My favorite part of traveling is talking to strangers and getting to hear how others maneuver through this thing called life. My convo stared with the girl after I cracked her up with one of my uncontrollable hysterics of laughing. If you have traveled with me you know the giggle that can’t stop. I had ordered a “ Toasty” an Irish sandwich. Hot ham and cheese, sounds harmless. This hot, saucy crusted old bread like airline snack was disgusting. I tried to pick it apart but determined it was not edible. She found my laughing to my mom funny and that was the opener for a nice chat. She and her boy friend, both Boston brainiacs were on their way to Croatia. She attends Wellesley College, he another Boston Ivy League school. Nice sweet couple.
We land in Prague and are greeted by a nice young man through JayWay holding up a sign with our name, friendly guy who transports us to our home for 3 nights in Prague. Martina is waiting in the lobby to greet us with our itinerary and a local cell phone to reach her 24/7 if needed during our stay. She will be our personal friend while we travel to ensure we are taken care of-brilliant way to travel! UJ and aunt Marlene have hooked us up to be taken care of for the next 9 days by this company that will handle the details of jumping from country to country. The best way for my Queen mommy to travel. She is a stay put kind of traveler unless on a cruise, an adventure this is for her to say the least.
Talk about my hopeless romantics reference in the beginning, this city is made out of a fairy-tale. The castles, spires, old buildings, cobblestone streets, gold details in architecture have not spoken to me yet, but I’m excited to learn the history of this city. It’s always wild to me that in America we knock everything down and rebuild it but in Europe and other parts of the world the structures last 1000’s of years.
We made our way to dinner on foot and took in all these sights, ate at the coin restaurant UJ and mar recommend, Mincova. I had my first Czech Beer, yes I know- I don’t drink beer, when in Czech do as they do 🙂 I drank the whole glass. It was good..ha ha a one time experience for me. I have learned about a Czech homemade vodka with herbs I plan to try. In any case we had a yummy meal for which I have photos and made our walk home in the beautiful breeze to our beds that desperately awaited our limp-less bodies. At 10 pm it is still light out, long days ahead, yay! We are sooooo tired from the travel and time adjustment. A few bed time giggles as my mom realizes they don’t have a phone in the room, not enough light etc….the little things that present our differences. A had to be there moment, we giggle and get some shut eye.
Today our first real day here, yay!! Slept in and had a delish breakfast at hotel. The European breakfast buffets are my favorite in a boutique hotel. The croissant was buttery goodness, hot and flakey that I had two, yikes. Soft-boiled eggs, meats, cheeses, strong coffee, fruit, etc. We are off for a 4 hour food walking tour today and I’m hopeful I will learn about the history and all my eyes took in last night. It’s a beautiful summer day in Prague. Until next time.
Love Laurie Sue xo
