Full Day in Savannah- We are in LOVE with the South, Y’all

Arriving last night after no sleep and early flights to get here, we took it easy and I worked, while Boots rested. We ventured out for exploration on Friday night to walk to dinner. We are staying across from Ellis square and close to City Market area. The town/city has 22 squares in total. We made our way to an old French restaurant, called Circa 1895. The amount of history in Savannah is blowing my mind.

We started our full day, Saturday with a Segway tour. Luckily we both slept long and were totally refreshed. Minus the fact my mama is a little under the weather. She knows how to rally, after a few complaints…she is a trooper!! We met Rick our guide for 2 hours. He is a Scottish man who happens to be an Aires, sharing CUJ ‘s birthday. He was a colonel in the Scottish batallion reserves, a total tough guy who was carrying a knife to protect us. The only thing CUJ and him have in common is your love of history, facts, and story-telling. He spends half his time in Europe and the other half in Savannah. We passed by Jones St….this is the wealthiest st in the historic part. So funny,tp think about “keeping up with the Jones”. We thought he was funny, entertaining, and a total wealth of knowledge. What I love about a Segway tour, is these guides truly bring the streets to life. We learned, Savannah was founded in 1733, Im excited to go back and take more time seeing many of the sights we zipped by. Boots became a pro by the end. We both interrupted this guy with questions constantly. I have learned living in the South would do me some good. The southern manners are remarkable. I have never been called ma’am this much in my life. Gotta find a southern boy….I really like their charm, kindness, and the way they treat ladies. We went by the 3rd oldest synagogue in the USA on a Saturday, people were showing up for Sat morning services. Our Rick kept calling it Shabbat, pronounced ShabbBAT. I corrected him, it became a funny thing and he was offering my mama Manishevitz. A had to be there moment. Lol There is a large jewish population here and the Jewish Food Festival was here a few months ago. We rode over dead bodies….this town is built on top of old old graves. Hence why its known to be the most haunted city in the USA. We have signed up for a Haunted Ghost tour tonight.

The architecture and style of homes is like what you see in the movies. Apparently many movies are filmed here. Scarlet Johansen & Channing Tatum were just here filming last week. The SCAD school brings many designers and film people to the area as well. Seeing all this is making me want to visit Asheville & New Orleans….2 more american city’s I have yet to explore that are in the South. We buzzed by huge Oak trees, many covered in moss. As we rode by Lafayette square, the classiest square to live by- where a 600 sq ft apt costs $7700 per month. We smelled the most incredible aroma of sugar, Rick shared it was peach/caramel french toast coming from a favorite of his, called Clary’s. If we don’t explode from all the other food we keep eating, we shall see if we get a chance to try it. The food here is sooo good and all so unhealthy. Would be a serious problem if you lived here.

Rick….

The Girl Scouts were founded here, we saw the home of Juliet Low. Btw, it was freezing during the entire tour, they provided gloves, and Mommy wore my hat, while I bought a new one. We ended the tour with hot apple cider. We walked to a recommended lunch spot by Rick. We got defrosted before finally venturing down to the famous River st. As you can imagine its on the Savannah River, with huge River Boats and all. Many beautiful hotels, restaurants, bars, and shops are down by the River. Best part of the day….

Liam

I had my own adoption reunion. There is an adoptive mom that I keep in touch with through FB, I don’t do this with many…she and I bonded as there story coincided with my fabulous Daddy dying. Liam was born February 2016. His adoption story is for a different post/book, but today was PRICELESS for me. I saw them last when he was a newborn, it was SO cool to hang put and play with the cutest boy. They brought me a xmas ornament in the shape of the state of GA, he became my bff so fast. We talked all over lunch, my first shrimp & grits, and it was good. Liam showed us photos of all his endless boy activities. He loves to fish, play outside, catch bugs, salamanders, crabs, shrimp, grasshoppers…he is all boy! He built a huge tractor out of cardboard and won a contest. We all walked the river. He and I holding hands. He called me Misses Laurie non-stop. I don’t know if I have ever loved hearing my name this much before. His southern drawl accent was the absolute sweetest. Ms. Laurie….we went to the JW marriot together to look at Christmas decorations, and take a ton of photos. The 5 of us had the BEST 3 hours together. He thought it was cool I knew him since he was a baby, and that we were both born in Arizona. The day with them ended and little Liam gave me a kiss on the cheek. He asked if I would visit again and come to his house. I promised to see him again, and he promised to remember me next time, lol

Boots and I had an hour before dinner. We went back to hotel for Boots to add curls to her flat head, she had borrowed my snow hat- its that cold…..brrrrrr. We laughed so hard because we had sent a photo of her crazy hair home to our “gals” group text, Macey’s comment was the best, “ Grandma looks like a wet puppy”. She wont let me share that photo. Lol

Again, dinner was delish!! Ill spare you the details but look up, Vic’s on the River if interested. Best was my Georgia Peach drink, and our fun waiter Mike, the Taurus. We loved him and he loved us. After dinner we did a Ghost Haunted trolley tour. Learned more about the city being built above the dead, and why the spirits are surrounding us with paranormal activities. We packed it in today. Its now 1:30 am, my mama is snoring….Sweet Dreams until tomorrow

XO love Laurie Sue AKA Dora & Boots ❤️💫🙏🏻💕

PS what a magical day!

Looked like a fun day and evening…thanks for putting Rick’s name below his picture, I may have confused him with Liam. I needed to see the ‘Boots’ Savannah Wet Puppy hair. Enjoy travels home.

Beautiful! Getting deep into the South. Your tour guide is classic. Is the knife part of his wardrobe/ costume or for protecting you all? Or both? Looks really interesting there and it’s on my list. My niece moved there and loves it after living in Chicago for forty years. Hugs to you and Boots, and Liam.

The visit with Liam appeared magical. You looked so content and Savannah brings the lady out in you.
